  • Holding tank

My brother owns an apartment building 8 small apartments. In the bsmt he has a water heater about 80 gallon gas. He has an old 80 gallon along side not hooked up and wonderd if he used it as a holding tank so the water feeding the tank coming in at 45 F. and would warm up to 65F. room temp. just standing their. Would that save on your gas bill?

      Short answer...NO

It's probably a 199,000 btu commercial heater. The difference in the gas being saved would be too small to even be noticed on the bill.

Then you have the issue of an old heater that would be prone to leaking.

He could strip the insulation off of the old heater but then it would condensate all over the place
