  • What's This Yellow Goo?

Turned on my torch today and all of a sudden this wet yellow goo spilled out of the torch tip. I took the tip off and it's spewing from the handle as well. WTF is it? I checked the bottle but didn't see any residue. Nothing foreign got in there because that tip hasn't been off in months.

It's soft and fluffy like spray foam but isn't sticky. It does happen to be VERY flammable.

I have no clue where this came from. I've never had anything liquid come out of my torches EVER. I did have some black powder come out years ago just before the lining ruptured on the hose.

    Any ideas?

Appears the gas has become unstable. Its probably about to blow up. You better not touch that bottle.......

I'm thinking something screwy from the bottle too.

The only other thing I could add is the torch fell over the other day in the back of the truck. It rode around upside down for a few days before I noticed it.

What type of gas are you using, acetylene or propylene?

Some guy just burned his house down near here the other day when his torch erupted into a ball of flames. It didn't explode luckily.

Looks like it could be a reaction (maybe a polymerization) of some residual propylene. That stuff is pretty volatile due to it's weak molecular double bond.
