  • how to minimize the gap when insert a new section

when work with cast iron 2" pipe, if one end will be inserted into a hub with donut and another end will be connected to the existing 2" pipe with Rubber Hub x Hub Shielded Coupling, how to minimize the gap between the new section and the existing 2" pipe? and usually how big that gap is reasonable?

typically there is side to side play with the hub. you should be able to push it into the hub and swig it sideways to line up with the bald end pipe. all you need is a couple inches of offset. then pound in the rubber.

of course there's always another way and that's to cut a 1' section and caulk it into the hub. then measure the total net opening and subtract approx 3/8'' from the total opening. roll back both bands and insert it into the opening. then roll the bands back into position.
