Bradford White Direct Vent Water heater M-1-TW-50S6FBN
A Plumber said that 2” should not be used. I disagree. Maybe he is not familiar with this heater or I'm missing something?

On this link it states the below (bullet point 11 ) http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1270752162815/28913_PROD_FILE.pdf
Horizontal and Vertical Venting—With 2" or 3" PVC, ABS or CPVC (Maximum
equivalent vent length on reverse side).

Chart on what distance is allowed for use of 2” PVC Schedule 40
Has two 90’s (excluding the 90 going to the vent) and one 45 (the 45 is used to come out of the wall). Less than 20’ of PVC total.
Venting Part 2 as it is a 50 gallon heater (Page 17) . I believe table 5 should be used.

Also it was said that the vent was installed on a slight angle (horizontal 2 foot run before the 90 going into the vent of the heater. Again I disagree.

    1. For horizontal installations the vent pipe can be installed with a
downward slope (not less than 1/8" (3 cm)) and away from the blower.

With the limited information does the plumber’s statement hold water? I agree that if 3" can be used use it.

    Or am I missing something?
