  • Rigid pump doesn't always turn on

Sometimes water goes above my pump and my pump doesn't pump. If I shake it it will fire up and then work most of time.

Any idea what is causing this?

Sounds like the float switch is getting stuck may be as simple as cleaning your pump and sump pit.

is the switch that turns it on a mechanical float switch, or the solid state sensor type?

the sensor type is notorious for intermittent operation. If it is that type, replace it with a float or replace the unit with one with a mechanical float.

if it has a mechanical float switch, drain the pit and make sure there is enough room for the float to come up and turn the pump on w/o getting caught on something.
This is my reminder to myself that no good will ever come from discussing politics or religion with anyone, ever.
