  • sub pump in my basement not turning on to pump

I have a sub pump in my basement that does not always kick on to pump the water... sometimes the breaker is flipped but more often we have to go smack on the pipe that runs into the pit to get it to kick on... why does this happen and what is the best way to fix it?

most likely your sump pump needs replacement. Either the motor is failing, or the float switch is no good and even though the float is up it isn't making good contact. Either way, a new sump pump should fix your problem.

Right...what d_slat said....for what a decent sump pump cost vs trying to fix a failing one.....New one wins....
