  • Acid or water based flux for copper airlines with 95/5 Solder?

I'm bringing this question to this board because I consider you guys the experts on this subject. I selected the materials I will be using carefully and belive it to be plenty safe for the application. But the flux has me wondering if I should go with water based considering that acid based flux dosn't washout of water lines. If it dosn't rince out of water lines airlines there's no chance of it ever coming out.

What do you think? Would this be a good use for Oatey #5 or should I use water based flux? I'm probable making this more complex then it has to be. I'm certain no one else has considered this.

water base for sure. i use everflux. i would solder and then pressure test with water. then flush out the water and pipe. then use the air to blow out whatever water is left.

the water rinsed out will look soapy and that's the flux washing out.

good question and glad you asked. acid base flux would have eventually eaten away from the inside of the copper.

I didn't think about "pressure test with water" that is a grate idea.

      Thanks again!
