Does anyone know how the automatic "water sensing" works in these pumps? The Rule pumps turn on every 2 1/2 minutes and check for impeller resistance and run until the water is pumped out. Anyone know how the Ridgid ones work?

I couldnt find any reference to the inner workings of the pump on the internet. However it could be turned on by two metal probes that create a closed circuit when water contacts it. It would then turn off when water falls below the contacts. Amp draw circuitry is somewhat expensive. IMO, probably too expensive for a $139 pump.

Thanks, I just called Ridgid, apparently it will turn on when water is a couple inches above the base and turn of when it is 3/8 " deep. Not sure what activates the switch.
