  • Tapping into Old Cast Iron

Need recommendations. Existing cast looks to be 4 1/2" ID - 5" OD. Cant get the same size pipe in a wye. The pipes in great shape. Do I cut & insert an abs 4" wye with Fernco couplings. Or try to make a 6" pipe wye fit?

Why can't you use 5" CI fittings?
Charlotte has no-hub as well as hub & spigot 5" fittings, including wyes from 5x2 to full 5".

I agree. No hub is your best bet.

4.5'' id is too big for 4'' and too small for 5''. have you tried to actually hold a piece of pipe or run cloth tape around the pipe to compare the od circumfrence.

my guess it's a 4'' cast line that should measure around 4.5'' od.
