This is usually how most remodels start.

Jerryman - if i had the money i would have called a "real" plumber in the first place but since I can not afford it, I decided to seek the advise of you fine people.

Sayco actually makes a heavy duty specialty tub socket to remove that stem. Looks too late to use here though.

                  Re: shower valve broken

You turned off the water to the house, and opened the valve to release vacuum first, right?

                    JK949 - Yes.

So this would be too late?

Yes, I know she needs a Reno bad, money is just tight for her.

The recessed hex looks okay, I would give it a shot with a deep socket with very little play. A plumber's socket kit isn't the most heavy duty, but the thin walls can fit it tight spaces.

                        Re: shower valve broken

The Sayso stem I was thinking of has just two flat sides and rounded on the the others. A typical six sided tub socket set won't fit over it.

                          Re: shower valve broken

To me, the body looks slightly crushed like what can happen when you apply a pipe wrench to a weakened pipe nipple. Either a socket will fit or it won't.

JK949 - Yes that is what happened, I thought having a wrench of some sort would help since that is what I saw online but when I applied the pressure it broke. I didnt figure it to be so weak.

So would it possible to just grab the nipple and with whatever I can and try to turn it till it comes off?

A guy at the hardware store suggested a deep socket, one where you turn it with a screw driver but it did not fit. I will post a picture of it.
