  • 3" ABS pipe to a 4" cast iron closet bend

I'm on a remodel job with a homeowner and he's changing out the old 4" cast iron rise pipe and flange for the toilet to 3" ABS, using a rubber reducing donut. I'm questioning the use of 3" pipe to 4". I was thinking you needed to stay with 4" if you were not also changing the closet bend to 3" that goes into the main stack.

    Am I wrong?

Also, I told him he needs to drive the donut down into the cast iron further, not leaving the rubber lip of the donut on top of the cast iron. Am I wrong on this?

    Thanks.
