  • Venting a regular gas water heater out a side wall

I have a 50 Gal gas water heater in very good condition. Currently the vent runs horizontally 6 feet and then vertically 35 feet through a cedar shake roof. We are going to reroof and I want to get rid of the vent stack. I can horizontally vent the pipe out of a wall 10' and then 6.5' under a deck and exhaust it. I have plenty of head room to get 1" per foot rise on the pipe if need be. As long as I use B vent is this acceptable and safe.

    Thank you. Bill

Power vent water heaters can be vented horizontally, but you don't have one.

Thank you for your responses. Just for my information is it the need for a vertical draw of a chimney that is lacking?

Needs to vent 1' above the roof. Maximum 75% horizontal of the vertical length. Also 5' minimum vertical height above draft hood.

You don't want an ambulace chasing attorney to sue you for doing it wrong, do you

              Rick.

Only 1' above roof. Down here we have to be min. 600mm above lowest point of roof
