    Re: about pvc abs

I rarely ever install pvc, but I like pvc over abs when it comes to camera inspections.

Pvc typically requires a primer prior to gluing while abs doesn't.

Out here abs is stocked while pvc is special order.

It's got to be a joke Rick. A "plumber" joins almost a year ago and asks this first question. Strange.

ABS is more flexible than PVC. ABS is use exclusivly for DWV.
Maybe the little extra flex is good for earthquakes.
Around here PVC is the main pipe.

I did take notice he listed himself as a plumber, but didn't spot the join date.

Lets see if he's a 1 hit wonder.

            Re: about pvc abs

I was installing a couple of receptacles for garage door openers recently. Some of the DWV lines were run below the drywall. The fittings were PVC and the pipe was ABS, you know, for the Zebra effect.

Interesting. Down on the 27 parallel it's just the opposite.
The only place ABS is seen is in mobile homes.

Up here in the North land PVC rules over ABS.

                  Unsubstantiated reasons include:

                  1. Noisy

                  2. Joints come apart easier.

                  Just saying

                    Re: about pvc abs

In Il. ABS disappeared in the early 70's and I thought the problem was that it would support a flame and PVC didn't,so it became the plastic of choice for villages that allowed plastic W+V systems, but my memory also get's fuzzy going back that far sometimes
