  • Why don't most tubs come with combo strainer stoppers?

We are having out tub and shower replaced In a 1951 home and the new drain comes with only a stopper. The old tub has a lever and stopper in the overflow pipe which the plumber said those are no longer code here in Minnesota.

Not that i have much hair on my head but why dont all new tubs come with a strainer and stopper? Yes Watco makes such a combo but not many other options. Don't you want to catch items before they can clog the pipes?

Some states / local plumbing code require a minimum of 1.5 " diameter on a tub overflow pipe and a trip lever /stopper would reduce the minimum code requirement that's why your plumber said you can't use one .
