  • Leak proofing a shower seat

I am installing a shower with a recepter, the seat in the shower recesses into the end wall about 18" behind the shower, this space will be as wide as the shower and run to the ceiling. My question is after framing out the seat area how do I make sure there will be no leaks after the shower is tiled?

You may want to check out the forums at www.johnbridge.com. It is mainly a tile setting forum and there are many threads on shower and bath installation, not only the tile, but the correct backer boards and moisture seals, etc.

This is what I would do...

But if you really want to do tiling, then do this to the seating area...

Then put up your durock, apply this RedGard, then finish with your tiling and proper grout.

RedGard is very stretchy. if you tool it into the crack, it'll seal.
It's actually really hard to rip, after you let it dry. Gotta clean up before it dries.
You use a roller, and "paint" the entire shower after it's built.

I'm not a major tiler, so I got some help with this from a buddy for you....
