  • Insulating?

What type of insulation can be installed in an existing houses walls without demoing the finished walls?

Drilling at the top & bottom behind the moldings?

Would spray in expansion insulation push things out?

    Thanks.

    Blown in

but they have to drill an 1 1/2" hole above and below fire stops.

Foam insulation can lift an empty tub.I wouldn't

They are doing it with spray foam now. I just did a google search about it a few weeks ago. They do it from the outside just like blown in, butI don't see why it could not be done from the inside if needed.

I can't remember the search term I used to find the info. I'll ask the FIL.

Search terms: spray foam injection insulation

        may want to include Tripolymer
        in your search

So it sounds like this product is "lighter",not as "stiff" as what I'm used to see/using.

Thats pretty much my guess. I don't know much about it.
FIL asked about it a few days ago. My reply was "spray foam without ripping the walls? uuum...I don't think so"
So he did some poking around because he swore he'd heard/read something about it.

To me it looks much better then blown. We might try it out, but it's still up in the air.
Looked into buying a system. Since the whole house needs to be done it might be worth just buying the whole deal. NOT. Big bucks for the systems.

Dense pack cellulose may be the most economical choice. 11/2" holes high and low, inside or out. Our crews do it every day. We have the occasional nail pop but nothing major.

They do make a low expansion foam for this application. I believe it will cost and arm and a leg or two but it could pay itself back over the years.
