Just leave 2" of meat from the bottom of the pipe to the bottom of the joist..I try to leave 1" from the top ..But I'm a plumber we butcher everything ..Also I would try to keep 2' from the end of a joist for a 2" hole , 3' for a 3" hole etc..Atleast that's what we use to do
