  • Bathroom remodel, Norwegian Style

This video series is about remodeling an apartment in a 130 year old building in Oslo, Norway.

This video in the series covers closing in the bathroom.

What I found interesting is the materials and methods used compared to what is done here in the US.

We seem to be behind the curve regarding construction.
Even watching Holmes on Holmes you see how different even Canada building codes differ to ours.

I used to live in the UK and still own a property there which is out on rent. There are definitely differences in materials and methods - also the brands for things like mortar are all different. The electrical system and components look a lot more robust and better engineered than what we find in the US. The breaker panel is well designed and no one uses wirenuts.

That's one of the drawbacks to being first, the other guy learns from and builds on your shortcomings.

In general with their materials and methods or just with Alex's work on this remodel?

I'm curious too - where in Norway and what aspects of plumbing specifically?

In many countries there in old building and homes the plumbing due to age leaves a lot to be desired. It would be a lot of work to upgrade. But newer homes and building should be in line with what we have in the US.

I have a good friend who lives in Oslo - been meaning to visit but not got around to it.

Can't speak for Norway. In other countries (Spain, France, Italy even UK,) they don't believe in venting through the roof. If I used bottle traps as much as they do, I'd sure want proper vents.
