You use the locater and I`ll do it by Witching

I use to lay phone cable and had to do this many times to find the miss marked lines. I`d be digging and digging then I`d stop and find two marker flags and bend em at 90`s and go Witching. Dig one last time and move to the next job site
My theory may be horse$hit as I really don't know how or why it works , that's the best reason I can come up with as most people that get shocked a lot can do it.

      Re: Used locator

Have someone blindfold you, drive you to a site, get out (still blindfolded) and use your wires. Have them mark wherever they cross. Then dig away. If and when you don't find anything don't be like all the other people that claim they can do this saying "must be an aquifer, spring, etc. down deep."

That's how I got my brothers money he used duct tape on my eyes with a rag behind the duct tape. He told me what the wires were doing and marked the ground. I dug up my sewer and said Thanks $$$

Gotta see it to believe it. And it must be at a foreign location.

Enough that I have dug up 500 pair phone lines and been with in 1".
I can get pretty close if the wind is not blowing like mad.

Percentage wise? What would you estimate? Water & Sewer Lines too?

                  Re: Used locator

I'll take this bet. Next year's roundup. You find the buried utility and we'll check it with the locator. You need to find 2 lines and there intersection point. If you're within 6" of the locator results, you win, drinks will be on me the entire time we're up there. I win, you pick the food tab for me and dunbar

No Ben, you win, he digs in the same hole 'til he finds something. That's what I tell them.

with-in 90% water and sewer are easy
just like using the locater you will also get ghosting if there`s lot of crap in the ground or even over head.

because I like to pin point a brake with my sond and like I said if your working where theres overhead stuff you`ll pick it up as well so you need to be able to cut out some other stuff to find what your looking for.

I have never dug an empty hole yet there`s always been something in it.
I did one today where I had to use my skills as my locater was in the sewer trailer and I had the backhoe trailer.
Sewer trailer was in one town and I was working in another so I wasn't gonna drive back to get my locater
