          Josh,

I have some good video if you want. I'm sure you can edit it how you need to or harvest some still shots.

Want me to send them your way?

Ya gotta be one of those nerdy computer guys to know how to do it. DVDs are pretty easy.

Jake, thanks for the offer. They wont make it here by the time I need to present.

Some day I need to build up a library of inspections here as samples. I just have some from Rick's ring exploration all the ones we have here are boring pipe.

              Thanks guys,

              Josh

(I have near-on-line digital storage of every inspection I have done since
12/1998 - I keep the tapes at the shop, the disks at home. You're in luck guess where I am...)

What 11 years of inspections (1600+) stored on optical media looks like...

(recent ones are stored 5 to 10 at a time on DVD depending on size - older ones stored 1 at a time on CD-R)

                          Thanks again,

Vance, I'm not sure what the data storage life is for a DVD but I read an article that folks are loosing data on CD/R's due to age degradation (8-10 years)

I did not know that CDR's had a shelf life, I'm going to guess that DVD's are the same... I hear folks are shifting to online storage to help avoid this)

                              Okie:

Yep, I am aware of that problem. It has mostly to due with storage conditions (temp, humidity, stored flat on top of each other not in Tyvek lined envelopes) etc. I am keeping up on things in this regard. I have CD-R's with data on them that are older than when I started storing video by several years. I throw a few (from diff. mgfrs. of media) into several different optical drives (important: some drives and or media will show problems before others) on a regular basis to see if it will still read.

Can't trust online storage either and it costs too much for large video files. Also takes forever to down/upload on "consumer" internet connections.

If I were the CIA, storing mission-critical data, I might think differently. But paying attention to storage as well as having two copies stored in completely different places (in case one burns down, etc.) will have to do for now.
