  • Ridgid Disappointed Me

I would have thought any Plumbing tools would be at least water resistant. SeeSnake Micro is not sealed in any way. Rain water backed up in my basement due to an obstruction in the drain pipe. I was attaching an extension onto my Micro and dropped it into the water. Picked it up immediatly and it was too late. Completely filled with water and shorted out. I removed the batteries as quick as I could and completely dried out the Micro. Tried new batteries but it is dead. Now I have original and small camera heads along with 2 six foot and 2 three foot extensions and no camera.

How did they disappoint you ? You dropped it in the water ? Did you try putting it in a bowl of uncooked rice...to get all residual moisture out ?...much like you are instructed to do w/ a cell phone if dropped in a puddle?

If you thought it was waterproof...why did you grab it out of the water so quickly ? Just curious....It doesn't state that it is water proof unlike my Fluke digital multimeter that I paid more money for....for that reason.

I guess I just miss the point that you are saying they disappointed you because YOU dropped it in the water in the first place...and realized it wasn't waterproof until after ?

Sounds like you made a mistake, shouldn't have been putting it together over water. Just my two cents.

Really? Ridgid's fault? where does it say it is a waterproof camera? It is a piece of electronics, and last time I checked water is not a good bedfellow.

This is no different than you backing yor truck over it, would you still expect the device to work after that?

Will someone in this country stand up and except blame for their own mistake for once!

For what they cost it should be water proof!

Its a $200.00 inspection device, your iphone is twice as much and I do not think its water proof.

Scruff and Mariner, your posts don't deserve a responce, but I will give you one anyway. I never expect anything to be water proof and never said that. I said water resistant, and that is why I retrieved it from the water as quickly as possible.I had 9' of cable in the pipe and was adding another 6' section when I dropped the head. I know I should not have dropped it, but Accidents happen. I would have thought the electronics would have at least had the housing sealed enough to give some protection. Mariner, why would your Fluke meter, at any cost, be water proof? Do you work on Pumps from inside the pool? Sorry guys, but I feel I have a ligitimate complaint. Do I expect anyone to do anything about it, No, But I am disappointed with the situation anyway.

Sorry about your camera but none of the cameras are water resistant, only the image heads and extentions are.

                Re: Rigid Disappointed Me

You hit the nail on the head when you said you should not have dropped it in the water, and accidents happen. Water resistant means you can use it in the rain, water proof means you can drop it in the water. Warranties do not include accidents, thats why they are called accidents. I would be really impressed if you could point to me any piece of electronic equipment that is water proof that cost under $200.

Why is it that the people who purchase the least expensive piece of equipment always expect the most from it and complian the loudest when it will not do everything the more expensive stuff does.

Accidents happen, why is it always somebody else's responsibiltiy to take care of your mistakes? If I go out and drop my blackberry in my spa by accident, in no way am I expecting it to work when I pull it out. I am certainly not going into the store and telling them that for what I paid for it, it should have at least been able to withstand a couple of moments under water!

Good luck with getting it replaced, I mean really, let it dry out and take it to a distributor to see what they will do, I would not tell them truth though.

Okay there is no reason to get personal. I totally understand Dan's frustration.

OK, I wont get too personal but I will say that Dan is about as far away from a chronic loud complainer as this Forum has ever seen. Over the years Dan has shared some very helpful knowledge with many of the members here, myself included, and always with an open minded nonjudgmental attitude. And FWIW, the misspelling of Ridgid is so rampant everywhere that it's almost a rarity when it's spelled correctly but it certainly isn't a reading error to misspell it.

Dan im with you you never said that it should be replaced or your looking for some thing from them
you would think if 1/2 the tool was made to work under water the other 1/2 be able to work around water so in case it gets a little wet it wont harm it

try the rice it does work

you can always look at it this way you did get good use out of it in its life time

Thats too bad..You would think a bit of water would not kill it..But.. I dropped my cell phone in the toilet .They could tell it was water damaged because a little piece of litmus paper in the phone changes color when it gets wet..I bought the full insurance after that one.. Maybe Ridgid should start offering insurance on their equipment..I am sure it would cost a pretty penny but when it breaks down or fails or you run over it with your truck you'd be covered

The title was my Bad, typo not misspelled. I tried to edit it but could only edit the first post, not the title. I don't know why Mariner could not understand my original posting. I never asked or expected anything more than a rant. I bought this Micro when they first came out from a local distributor and had to wait a few weeks for it to come in. Hell, I never even broke the original plastic head, while most others had to be replaced. LOL
