    how deep will this transmitter signal transmit. also marv at allan j. coleman has a after market transmitter that reaches down to about 20 feet, but its $600.

    Depends on soil conditions and pipe material. I've had good luck in clay & plastic pipe down over 12 feet in soft soil. Cast iron locates gets spotty over 6-8 feet. This using a Scout locator.

      As already mentioned it will depend on conditions:
      1. Battery strength in transmitter
      2. Battery strength in locator
      3. type of locator
      4. surrounding materials (don't forget voltage surrounding area)
      The max is probably going to be 20'.

        mostly clay pipe and clay soil conditions.using a scout locator.lots of sewers around chicago are 10 to 20 feet deep.
