  • K-400 w' 1/2" cable - cutter options?

I'm considering buying a K-400 drum unit with the 1/2" cable. The catalog states that 1/2" cable is sufficient for 3-4" pipe. I am looking at Grainger/McMaster/MSC, but their catalogs show only 2" cutter heads for 1/2" cable and 4" cutter heads for 5/8" and 3/4" cables. Is the attachment point the same for 1/2" and 5/8" cables?

A 5/8 drum cable and a 1/2 drum cable are different. I would not attempt to use a 4" blade on a 400.
    Buy cheap, buy twice.

      I wouldn't seriously plan to use a 1/2" cable for 3" or 4" drains.

Number one rule Pipe size and Cable size go hand in hand. 1/2 cable = 2", 5/8 cable =3" maybe 4", 3/4 cable = 3" most times but 4"-6" But if you had some real short distance that clogged and wasn't roots you may get away with the little snake depends on the job. If you buy a 3" cutter it usually will fit the 1/2 cable but some heads are thicker like 1 piece units and might not fit. If you are going to do downspouts etc it would be ok at that.

what applications are you attempting to use the k-400 on?

it might not be the machine for your application.

definitely not a mainline root machine. it will do baby wipes in a 4'' line, but don't hit roots or you'll be looking for another cable and a drman to get you out.

what do you plan on using it on?

A 1/2" cable just turns what is a heavy duty "interior line" rig
into a dangerous main line rig.
I gaurantee that a heavy cable load will either wrap the cable around
your neck or other body part, or break in your hands.
I've had both situations and none of the results are pretty.

If you really have to, some creative blade bending can take care
              of your pipe diameter issues.
              Try Spartan brand....................
That's what I used when I cleaned drains professionally.
They have a much larger product line and what looks like
              the same couplers.
