I also have a k39af but would buy a k40 if I had to do it over again.

the newest design allows the k-39 to rotate in a clockwise direction and still feed in and out. reverse is typically used when you're stuck.

So does the new K-40. Ridgid listened to me and put the k39 AF on the k40.
Can't take credit but the timing was mighty suspicous.

I like the ridgid autospin. cables are cheap and it helps keep the mess controllable.

autospin is definitely for the DIYs, not pros. Its junk.

If you guys like the Spartan 81 you really need to demo the K-50 while at the roundup. Where the K-60 is Rick's favorite machine the K-50 is mine. Not only will the K-50 run 5/8" cable but by using the A-17-A and the A-17-B adapter you can also run 5/16" and 3/8" cables. Here is a picture of the K-50 with a A-17-A adapter full of 5/16" cable. Ridgid does not do a great job of showing/explaining/bragging/showing off the versatility of the K-50 on their site.

Never liked the 81. It's to easy to throw a loop inside the drum. I even put a wing nut on it to try to keep the cable from throwing a loop. It has it's purpose I guess. The hand drill with the three point chuck is better IMO, some people don't like it because it's heavy but I think it's fine.

Hey Drain Medic why do you say the auto spin is junk ?
I have been using one for 2 years, and only had to replace the cable 3-4 times?
it works great in urinals and sinks that you don't think the trap will come off without replacing the plumbing. "Galvanized "

do I use it as much as my K3800 no, but it dose work for its purpose?

it is a cheaper tool but just like all tools if you abuse it will break.
