what would you have charged ?
I had a customer last night that had a sewage back up.
the line was just under 100' all work was done from the basement.
I cabled the line and brought back roots and grease.
the customer ask if I was sure that the line was cleared? I had said yes it is free flowing but their might be some left over roots and grease. because the cutters only can do some much.
I had told the customer that I could do a visual inspection with a sewer camera, for another fee. I provided the customer with a before and after video of the work as well.

so I did, 98% of the roots were gone, and there was a bit of sludge and a slim build up on the walls. the customer ask if I could get this clean as well. I said sure but I would have to jet the line and once again it would be another charge.
total time there was 3 hours.
what would you have charged for this job???
P.S. the customer was happy with the bill.
just kind of looking for what this job would cost around the US.

here a basement cable job is 100 right off the bat. Video is 100 and jetter is 200. My price would have been $400.00 for the 3 hours of work.

Don't do drain cleaning here, but I've been looking at it passively.
With the cost of equipment and maintanence I'd guessed right about the same as Il plumber, before I read the other posts.

in my neck of the woods it would be something like

          * Service Call $75
          * cable the line @ $90/hr on 1/4 hr increments
          * video the line (no disc just view) @ $135/hr on 1/4 hr increments
          * jetter @ $250/hr 1st hour (minimum) and $200/hr on 1/4 hr increments after 1hr. BTW i don't have a jetter and that's the going price for the one on the island. the guy on STT gets more for his jetter.

you can do your own time per event to get our ballpark $$

when asked by a new client (that i THINK has a sense of humor) "how much?" i reply with, "1 million dollars plus parts. parts are always extra but i have 10% off with this special" most times they laugh. sometimes they don't.

Re: what would you have charged ?

I really hadn't done drain cleaning in a few years, but Im getting tired of feeding my drain guy work without so much as a thank you sometimes. So I started cleaning some drains again. I get $250 for a main line, flat rate. I dont have a jetter or camera yet, but Ill see how the drain cleaning calls go. Last company I worked for 8 years ago got $525. (flat rate)to jet a main line (residential only) They also included the camera on all mains.

                They would have charged

                Snake and camera main $375.00
                Jet main $525.00

Re: what would you have charged ?

Current avg rate here to clean a main line is between $100 and $150. I am not familiar with camera or jetter costs, but due to the cost of this equipment I would imagine there is a flat rate for labor, plus an addition for the costs associated with using and owning the equipment. I would guess around $200 for a camera and $200 for using a portable jetter.

What kind of jetters are we talking? The ones that ridgid sells or a trailer. Just asking to get feedback on a good one.
