Why not just use a shielded all rubber? wouldn't everyone sleep better at night?? rather then altering a fitting or application?

Next time I will be using shielded couplings. Thanks again Aaron for introducing those to me on the Ohio Trip, still waiting for Fergusons to carry them I need a part # !!

I think what you mean is a "fernco" style rubber with a SS sleeve, same as a shielded coupling with a thicker rubber, I've asked in the past and got a few dumb looks.

It was for a very similar situation to yours, horrbly corroded CI underground with completely uneven surfaces.
Let me know if you find anything...whoever coughs them up will make a fortune.
As for the reliability of silicone, maybe a hot motor thats in constant motion might hurt the stuff, but my guess is it'll outlast the CI pipe it's applied to...just my guess.

It is called a PROFLEX Coupling same as you would use if going from copper to PVC or C.I.

They are also made by fernco a link to there spec is here

Not as soft as the all rubber. These are just like no hubs, except one side takes up the extra space for cast iron to plastic etc.

Those work fine except when your working with close connections.
They don`t roll back like No-Hubs.
              I get those at Lowes
I think they look nicer the No-Hubs too!
