i broke out the k-7500 today

so, i'm getting ready for my annual snaking of a 36 unit town house complex.

in preparation i needed to snake out 8- 6'' mains that run around the property.

last year i did it with my 1.25'' general 88 push behind.

this time i figured i'll try it with my k-7500

i used an expanding 4'' x 6'' cutter and ran out 100' in each of the lines.

on the sectional it was 10-10' sections.

along with the work, i had to drag power and water to help flush out the system.

so what was the major difference.

last year was my first time at this project. it was a learning experience and it took 5 hours start to finish. remember this was my first time and had to figure out the system.

today with the 7500 i completed it in 4 hours.

i did use the 5 gallon bucket to hold my tools and sit on too

yes the job was less physical, as i wasn't dragging cables.

but i did find that the 3/4'' cable was stiffer and harder to negotiate than the 1.25'' inner core i had run last year. especially at the start of each drain. since the drum is a heavy flywheel, i had to baby the cable and cutter to get it in and not hang up.
    of the 8 lines, only 2 had a full 6'' c/o's. 6 had 4'' c/o's

what i did notice is i pulled back very little roots on the 3/4'' drum cable, compared to last year with the open wind sectional.
so either i did a great job in cutting last year or the drum cable doesn't grab the roots like the open wind cable

all in all, it was nice to try my 7500, on this project. but it will be returning to my shop for a long vacation

now for saturday, i'll be breaking out 2- k-60's to double up on the 36 clean outs in the garages.

i'll be breaking in a virgin drain guy

hope his hands don't get dirty

I bet the President of Ridgid told you that bashing drum machines (K-7500) was killing sales...right?

I never could figure out how that fuzzy math was mending itself...

I just got home from a drain job and this is what my k60 caught. We just don't have the roots that Steve and Rick have. On the roof, roots at 65' went out to 90', tripped in first with straight auger then the spiral cutter, took an hour, start to finish.

You'll have to speak to Ben. He did mention something about heating an open wind cable red hot and branding my chest.

Dumb question but: How do you retract your cable? Any tricks or tips?

                      Thanks.

Did you use any innercore cable at all? I'm going to guess "no" since I believe you use it on the front and in the back, correct?

I leave one cable in the machine and pull the rest of it directly back into the carrier. If I get stuck, I'll disengage the cable at the closest joint, connect to the cable in the machine and rotate the cable while pulling. Once free, disconnect the cable and feed back into the carrier.

I use a leader spring and have an auto feed on my 7500. I use a 3/4 " cable. too old to do all that pulling and fighting to get a cable in and out
