Pretty much the way it is here also.
I don't know if it the $$$$investment of machines, cameras etc..or they are busy enough already, or they see it as a step back or what?

All I know is that most Plumbers around here carry a hand snake, auger, and plunger. If they can't get it with that they repipe, dig or tell the HO to call in a drain cleaner.

            Re: Plumber transitioning to Drain-Specialist.

I know of a lot of plumbers that if they even see a turd, or smell something foul, they'll start hurling their potatoes.

I can understand the whole clean work standard, but I truly believe you'll learn so much being a drain cleaner just by how the system fails, and how piping properly designed relates to codes.

I can't say I love drain cleaning, but I'm certainly not afraid of it.

I turned down an easy one today to my drain cleaning guy; I'm supposed to be unclogging a toilet right now. Then go pull a submersible pump and fix a split plastic line.

Off I go to play in poo!

Drain cleaning is plumbing too and we did plumbing.

                          Re: Plumber transitioning to Drain-Specialist.

Like my old buddy Homer from Macon Georgia says. (You've got to say it with a strong southern accent.) Drain cleaners is to stupid to be plumbers and plumbers is to proud to be drain cleaners.

Homer said it so don't yell at me

                              Yes,

I've met more than ya know, and they make it clear that they won't touch anything involving a backup. I think it's funny but if they haven't been around nobody's but their own, I can see how it would affect ya in such a way.
