  • Cables best for K 60

    Guys
Just couple of questions on the K60 Cables what are the best cables for the following.
    7/8
    5/8
Do they have heavy duty ones for the 7/8 cables.
One another dumb question how do you change from 5/8 to 7/8 cable as I see there are markings on the side of the k60.
    Thanks Again
    Greg

    7/8" cables
2"-4" open wound work best Ridgid c-10
4"-6" with roots General Inner core (makes the k-60 a 6" machine)

    5/8" calbes
    1-1/2"-3" ridgid c-8

To adjust it is so simple just turn the rear (where the guide hose attaches). I Grease that area every month to keep it moving nice and easy!

ridgid also makes the c-10 ic.

      the ic stands for innercore.

this is what i use for the first 15' as my leader.

it's a plastic core that fills the void in the open wind allows the cable to bite down on the core. this stiffens it up and makes it nice for heavy roots and larger pipe. it's very common for me to snake a 4'' c/o into a 6'' lateral out to the center of the street where it connects to city main.

99% of the time this is clay pipe on the 6'' and a combination of abs, cast iron and clay on the 4''.

as far as 7/8'' goes, i 've used it on everything from 1.5'' with an open auger to clear stoppages in the larger main.

the 5/8'' comes in 3 different winds.

standard is the c-8 that's good for up to 3''.

      optional is the c-9 that's a heavy duty wind. it's 10' long.

      or the c-7 that's also 7.5'' and it's a tight wind.

with a k-60 and 7/8'' cable, all you really need is the standard c-8.

if all you had was a k-50 then you would also want the c-9.

Rothenberger makes a very impressive inner core cable called ROPOWER Profile Cable. If you have a look at the edge of the cable its has a raised edge to add with descaling the pipe. Here is the PDF about it. http://a-archer.net/images/ROPOWER_Profile_Cable.pdf

same style innercore as the c-10ic.

how does it do in plastic with the raised edge. does it grind the fittings?

It works fine with them, it has more of the self feeding effect. They are very expansive, so What I do is I run one as the leader and then use the Ridgid heavy duty cable behind it.

Just confirming this is correct for the K60

7/8'' leader with inner core for leader (12 feet lengths)
7/8 C-8 cable for the rest
The 7/8 cable looks light as the ones I have got that are bent.
How far will the k60 Drive these

                5/8 Cable c-9 in 10 feet lengths
How far will the k60 Drive these

                Thanks for the help again
Sorry to be a pain in arse with questions .

                Cheers

greg, not sure what they have down under as your stats are not what i have.

the 7/8'' cable is called c-10 and it's 15' long.
the 7/8'' innercore is c-10ic also 15' long.

ridgid states 150' for 7/8''. i've gone 165' no problem.

i run the first 15'section with c-10 ic/ innercore and the balance with normal c-10.

the 5/8'' is listed as 125'.

90' is as far as i've ever gone with 5/8''.

remember that i can usually get 7/8'' into 1.5'' pipe and tend to use 7/8'' on hard long runs.

5/8'' i use for indoor showers with trap, washing machines, lav sinks and kitchens. the 7.5' section is easier to maintain inside and these lines are usually branch lines that are not too far. typically under 60'.

you sure i can't come there and demo. i have some time when i return from st. croix end of july

remember if josh ask to come too, he has to sleep on the porch, i have the house

I would personally go with the general innercore.

Greg, I just bought a K60 and opted for the General innercore in the 7/8". I'd be lying if I said I had lots of experience with that cable, but I can tell you: It's HEAVY! While I've only used the 7/8" on one job so far, I get the impression that it's very strong as well. I have 105' in a carrier, and while it's plenty portable; you know when you're carrying it. If you like to "pop" lines and then clean them, you can probably pop quite a few without even spinning the cable.

Thanks for all the posts guys.
Looks like I might be buying some cable soon.
Rick if you like you can come down to the land of OZ any time I could find you a few days work if we get busy.
Have Spare room but you have to come in summer though so you can enjoy the australian weather.
Some times we have to deal with wildlife like wild Kangaroos and Koalas so bring a magnum or something similar as we always carry a gun.
