Charging less does not mean more call volume it just means you have to work harder to reach your goals.

Are you kidding. The city of Na... better not name their name at this time, but they will televise a home owners sewer at no charge, and they will install a 6" clean out 15 from the house at no charge, and reline the sewer from the clean out to the city sewer, you guessed it at no charge. There are a few other burbs just west of Chicago that the public works guys will charge $45.00 to power rod a sewer.

I have complained to the state officials but my complaints land on deaf ears. How is a legit shop supposed to compete with the city? They city needs more money to pay for these services they just raise the taxes.

      None around here.
I know of one town that will camera just to prove the problem is not on their end but other than that, too much liability for the town.

Plus our departments are WAY to underfunded, under manned, and too busy to deal with even their own problems, let alone a home owners.

My problem is there not really clearing the line with a steel push rod.
say I charge $150 a pop and the do it at $100 and they have to keep coming ot 2 or 3 times a year In the mean time making it had to make an honest loving.
What next will they do sink tub and toilet clogs to.
If its a city line ok if it's a HO line should be hands off.

And our taxes pay for their rodding equipment to compete against us.

Where I'm at technically what the city or state owns begins at the street connection.

So anything upstream towards the house is each resident or business' private utility. It's considered no different than the kitchen faucet.

That would be your only argument I guess.

Is it legal for a publicly funded city maintenance crew to perform work on private property?

Should state & local funds be used for this instead of say..... SCHOOLS? (Always mention schools....that's a hot button.)

Should I have to pay for the guy down the streets 70 year old sewer maintenance?

Ask them where does it end? How about painting everyone's house? Appearances increase value and the tax base....right?

I know they are charging for this service. But how much? I will have to find out. Not good if I have to compete with the city.
Might have to pack up and move

I posted awhile back my local municipalities have a monster jetter/vac truck, smaller truck, and emergency response team.

No reason for me to get any jetter.

Re: Does City DPW rod residential sewer laterals in your area?

Emergency service is available 24 hours here to jet from the 6 inch city/parish cleanout to the street or manholes. People pay for this on their water bill.

The HO/plumber must have the city clean out exposed with the cap removed or the city/parish will not touch it. Dont know where your city/parish cleanout is? They'll tell you where its supposed to be according to their records and you have to hire a plumber, or laborers to expose it. They are not allowed to clean upstream of the city/parish clean out. Fear of lawsuits.

Of course the city/parish workers arent above taking a twenty.
