  • My new root rangers

finally got a root ranger after playing with it at last years roundup.

the 1/4'' original root ranger was sized based on the 4gpm 3000# specs based on the ridgid kj 3000 machine.

but there is also a 1/2'' size that is jetted based on your jetter specs.

i specified 1/2'' with 400' hose 11 gpm 2500# the nozzle was jetted to maintain the pressure and flow.

i used it on a 148' run from 4'' pipe into a 6'' main with known roots at 10' and 17'. the pull and power was tremendous.

the 1/2'' nozzle inside of 4'' pipe with fittings was not difficult to navigate or get back.

i used the 1/2'' rr instead of the 1/4'' as i was running my larger jetter.

here are some photos of the nozzle outside the pipe. i didn't dare run my camera while the nozzle was blasting.

i also did some testing inside of 6'' pvc pipe with both 1'' wooden dowels and 3/4'' square wood.

both the 1/2'' and 1/4'' ate through the wood like a chainsaw on steroids. the 1/2'' was faster as it's jetted 2.5 times larger.

    rick.

the 1/2'' rr running at a fast idle as i was worried it could get away from me.

the 1'' wooden dowel/ rake handle ready to be inserted into the 6'' pipe. nickle shown for size comparison.

close up of 1'' dowel inside 6'' pvc.

    very impressive jet blast.

so much for my rake handle. took just a few seconds to cut the 1'' handle in half.

Nice write up though Rick. And as always... great pictures.

more root ranger shots including the 1/4'' root ranger.

      rick.

standard size 1/4'' root ranger. normally i never use a quick connect, but for testing, i coupled it up to my 3/8'' spray gun hose.

i pulled the wood out after a few seconds to see the cut pattern. as you see anything in its 25 degree path gets blasted.

the 3/4'' square stock was no match even for the 1/4'' root ranger.

the 1/4'' lower and 1/2'' root rangers on 6'' pipe. even the 1/2'' had no problem getting around 4'' pipe with fittings.

      1/4'' inside of 6'' pipe.

some of the wood chips blasted out of the pipe. these are chunks and not dust.

so what's the number? I have a method to my madness. Besides, everytime I call and ask you a question, I get "why don't you post that on the forum and see what others say". Sooooooo....I'm following your advice and posting my question. So what's the number?

Nice post Rick... I've got a 1/4" and a screwdriver on order and can't wait to get my hands on them.

Sectional vs. Drum; we know where you stand, but my answer has always been neither.

I'll get you on team jetter yet.

was the 1/2" ordered from jetters edge? If so how long did it take to get it? Any ordering info would be great. What do you think of the double root ranger/ Too big for 6"?

would the 1/4" rr work with my jetter 4.6gpm at 3000psi? and where is the best place to get one?

Ridgid US supply the 1/4" Root Ranger kitted to suit most jetters from 3000 to 5000psi with a flow rate from 15 to 25 lpm (3.5-6.5gpm). If you have a late model Ridgid Jetter (I think it's called an RJ-3000) you will probably have one already. They are also threaded to suit your hose fittings.

We can supply the 1/2" Root Ranger and the Double Barrel Root Ranger.....if you can handle the power!
Aussie plumbers have used these for years you guys take a while to catch on!

                            Rick,

I appreciate your thread because I believe jetting is one of those things we need to get more involved in.
