  • So you hate Bermico/Orangeburg pipe

That crap pipe was Invented in Berlin NH. It's every where here thanks for all the future work I live so close to the plant where it was made I can take a picture of it from my office window.

The inventors of that s*%@ must have made out like bandits. Just think of the business plan Sawdust + Tar + Paper = Sewer Pipe Who could have seen that it may not be a good idea compared to the other products of the period such as Clay Tile or Cast Iron . I have excavated that pipe at all depths 3 ft to 16 ft it all goes into the famous figure 8 over time. Most of it is gone in this area. But it shows up at the worst time such as a home inspection revealing about 10 ft under the patio cast iron out of house to tar paper pipe to Sch 40 pvc Sale fell thru seller was caught in a lie about the sewer replacement. Still for sale still no repairs

This is embarrassing , here goes. Years ago I was cutting into some old C.I. area drain pipe to add another drain . I dug under the pipe pulled and locked, my chain cutter.
RATCHET, RATCHET, RATCHET , NO SNAP. ORANGEBURG !! Locked up forever. I trashed it.
It was a great tool, swivel head one. Been replaced. Now I would grind a pin ,and punch it out. Me Dummy GREENHORN CARPENTER.
I can build anything You want , if you draw a picture of it , on the back of a big enough check .

Actually the main culperet was Fiber Conduit Co. of Orangeburg, NY starting in the late 1800. However, it was first used as water lines in Boston in the 1860s. It has also been used as electrical conduit over the years. I still have 40+ year old Orangeburg at my house.

im in michigan and i have seen it for the first time about a month ago.
The city inspector said that he has only seen it a handfull of times.

I was shocked by how crappy it is!! Who would have ever thought that is would last for years as sewer pipe

In Boston. It carried an 18,000 volt line underground. My nephew working Underground
was electrocuted ,after breaking into it with a rock bar. Kevin collected a Mill the hard way.
He's alive but has pain. Boston Edison admitted they told Kevin it was not theirs, must carry sewerage, He killed the lights to fenway park that afternoon,

Wow so this crap goes Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Back. People who worked the mill here claim they invented this crap and are proud of it. The only mill workers who complained about are the ones who had to dig and replace it.

Ive always worried about what will happen when the orangeburg and clay have all been replaced, but then again ive pulled roots from pvc and seen lots of pvc that that run uphill, I love pulling up to a house with a clogged sewer and its new construction, its almost a guaranteed camera job !

Lots of sags I find in PVC here. Due to poor back filling or frost heaves. When you have 20 feet of sagged pipe and a 1.6 flush equal money in the bank. Me to love pulling up to a new home with a backed up sewer.

                            yeah...

improperly bedded and backfilled sdr35 pvc is nearly as bad... I've got a warthog stuck in some that's smushed just like orangeburgh right now. It may just stay there until summer.
