  • "Trip Waste" Of Time

Just got back from a possible call back on a 3rd floor tub drain. Property management company called up saying the tub you fixed 3 days ago is backed up again. No way That drain was as clean as a whistle ran that machine till no hair came back. Open hook so it grabbed everything.
OK I go out the young lady opens the door In a snarl tone I thought it was fixed. No problem I'll take a look in a nice tone.
She's like Well I thought you fixed it .

I just let out a little laugh because I can see she did not flip the trip waste lever. Reach over click drains 100% she was so embarrassed
I call those calls a Trip Waste of time.

Charging less does not mean more call volume it just means you have to work harder to reach your goals.

Made several of those trips myself..............sprinkler pipe is leaking!!!

Roof leak, plumbing leak, duct work sweating, etc.

No, it was in town. I just picked up this property management CO.
I told them I'll eat this service charge if you keep the calls coming.
Total drive was 4 minutes If it were out of town Yes I would have charged.

yup. did a frozen main line a while ago. got a semi-frantic and fully pissed off call back the next morning 'it's doing it again'. rush over there. it's the upstairs tub this time, not sewage coming up in the downstairs shower. I looked right at her and deadpanned it as I said "You've got to push this thing in the drain (toetap) to open it. You can tell because it says 'push' on it."
This is my reminder to myself that no good will ever come from discussing politics or religion with anyone, ever.

                      Re: "Trip Waste" Of Time

i did a call a couple of years ago. older west indian lady calls with a new sink, that her son installed before he went back to the states, that won't drain. when i get there she explains that this is the 1st new sink she's had in over 50 years. it's a nice shiney 2 tub sink. full of dark water and some dishes.

i empty the under sink area and remove the p-trap expecting a torrent of water. only a few drops. WTF? i reassemble everything and carefully reach into the 1st tub. sure enough the strainer/stopper is pushed down. i lift it and the water drains. the same thing in the other side. she was curious about how i opened the sink to drain. i explained the strainers had been pushed down creating a stopper. she seemed amazed by all of this. she had NEVER had a sink with a strainer. like a child with a new toy she pushed the strainer in and put water in the sink the pulled it out and the water went down. she really had no clue about how this worked. the house was built in the late 1800s and had "modern" indoor fixtures installed in the 1950s.

i couldn't charge her for the call. no attitude just thankful amazement and a good story i can tell every once in a while

                      with attitude i do charge
