Are you guys running the machine in reverse when using this auger ?
AssTyme, I don't. On my machine at least, running the machine in reverse, (the switch), screws the cable into the pipe, forward. The (forward) switch screws the cable in backwards. I think the problem with the cutter end Ridgid sells(T-101), its wound forward compared to the regular cable which is reverse wound. So if you accidentally had the switch on Forward, you could screw the end of the cable onto let's say a broken pipe. Put it the switch on Reverse, and the cable wants to go forward and you could be really stuck. Bad idea.
Cutting the end off a cable is nothing new. I'm sure it's been done for years on these sectional cables being that there nothing more that big spring. I have both the 7/8 and the 5/8 ends cut off.....
Thought I read the reasoning somewhere, correct me if I'm mistaken.....
speaking of stuck. I just picked up a 4 ton come a long and chain at a garage sale for $20 bucks. Something deep down said buy it.
Hope I never need it.
We got an EEL cable stuck one time and my dad got a wrecker to hook on it and try to pull it out. The wrecker just stretched the cable out and didn't pull the cable out. I tried the come along one time but couldn't find any where to hook the other end up to. Kind of like the time I got my truck stuck, I had 12 FT of cable and not a tree for 200 Ft and the dead mans anchor just pulled up out of the ground. But sometimes it dose work so good luck
