I need to get ahold of him and figure out why he went Jetters Northwest. I'm 50/50 Jetters Northwest and Hot Jet USA. Jetters Northwest seem like they have the better setup for a small trailer jetter, but I'm worried that there "gearbox" driven pump may lead to premature failure to the pump.
the plus is, it's simple to align the pump to the engine with the gear box.
the minus is that the gear box can cause the pump to run a little hotter due to the direct connection to the engine. there is also more chance of excess weight and vibration with the added length the pump that's bolted.
personally on a high power/ output machine. a belt and pulley is a better set up. typically a gear drive is limited to 30hp and less.
on smaller machines, a gear drive is fine.
belts can slip if not properly adjusted and can wear bearings if too tight. the high power machines use a timing/ cog style belt.
