  • It was just shocking I tell ya.

This is a safety post. Accidents happen when you get stressed or are in a hurry. I have GFI cords and use them as a rule. But yep you guessed it I was in a hurry to complete a job and get to the next one and I just used the nearest cord that was not a GFI with my K-500. I plugged in, sent the 1.25" cable down the cleanout, turned it on! Then placed one hand on the cable, then placed the other and bam! I was doing the chicken! I was froze there could not get my hands to release I was trapped. I could kinda yell and 2 of my guys where running to help me but there where going to touch me and then they would have been in the chain. I got one of my feet to move which broke the circuit I guess and I fell backwards on the ground just lying there. Wow I have been shocked before but nothing like this where I was powerless to do anything. So the point of this thread PLEASE USE GFI'S AND DON"T RUSH IT CAN KILL YOU.

Please go to the hospital asap. A shock like that could mess your heartbeat up at a later time even though you feel fine. Thank you for the warning.

and also go to see if you burned any thing in side you cant see

either take all you non GFI cords off your truck or tape a GFI on the end of the cord

I agree....go get checked out. I'm sure we don't have to tell you to use GFCIs now on, your experience was probably enough to teach you to never ever use a standard cord again.

Thanks for the reminder. I will bring it up in our next staff meeting. We have RCD boxes in our trucks and we test & tag on a regular basis but you never know just when a power tool will become faulty!

Cuda, I hope you went straight to A&E to get checked out. Just to jump on the back of all here dont be stupid, look after yourself. Also as Bill said we use RCD's but it is always tempting when you are under pressure to take short cuts. Another timely reminder that life is too short as it is without cutting anymore off it

Glad you are okay. Did the shock have anything to do with the replacement switch or motor?

Cuda, I'm glad you are ok and would like to echo what a few of the other guys have said about going to the hospital for a check-up... A hard shock can actually alter your blood chemistry and get ya sick, a plumber buddy was servicing an air compressor on a sprinkler system back when I was in the military, he got hit pretty hard. 4 days after the shock he ended up in the hospital for a few days until they could get the electrolite levels in his blood back to safe levels...
