  • Electric Eel Style Sectional Cable ina K1500/K60

Anyone using Electric Eel style open wind sectional cable in there K1500 or K60? Didn't know if there would be harm to the jawset as the cable would want to "pull" in the pipe, but wouldn't be able to as the jawset would hold it stationary.

We ran the Eel 1 1/4" cable in the K-1500 it worked ok. No real advantage for the extra weight. Ridgid does do a heavy duty cable which has a more open wind verses the standard cable.

The way I always ran my cables would send four standard sections (60') the the rest with the heavy duty.

Also the Ridgid cable self feeds into the pipe (on reverse if I recall) just hold the cable on the edge of the pipe. And on forward while holding the cable on the edge of the pipe and it self feeds out.

Then there is no harm in using it. We did it for years, my dad liked the cutters and self feeding action as well.

Can't beat Electric Eel cutters imo. My cables have held up well to. Only experiance with Ridgid style sectional cables was with a K50 in the 5/8" size. So I can't speak for how the Ridgid 1.25" compares, but since I already own so much Electric Eel cable, I was hoping I could use it with the Ridgid machines.

Ell cables a little larger then ridge if the 1500 is new with no wear we had to backoff the lock a adjusting nut a little if there is some wear it is not necesseary. Ridge does make c-11 innerr core cables. There a adapter to use eel cuters on ridge cables. Marvin

The jaw set eventually gets a grove worn into them and acts as a self feeding jaw set. With different cable pitches, the groves will not be as defined to 1 pitch.

If you really wanted to, 1 could run a 25' section of 5/8", 11/16", or 3/4" drum cable in a k60.

Could start a whole new debate

What's better a drum cable in a sectional or a drum cable in a drum

I've wondered about running a section of eel cable in front of a drum cable using the eel adapter.? I haven't used eel cable enough though to know how it would react inside of the pipe

The open wind of a sectional leader, would be more agressive in roots, sludge, wipes at cleaning and augering a line.

The open winds grab much more aggressively than a tight wind cable. Similar to how an auger cutter is designed.

My Electric Eel Model N runs 5/8" sectional cable, you should check it out. You'd probably like it as your tool whore like myself.

Problem is it's a drum with its slower speed, bigger footprint, water in the drum, more weight, than a k50. I'll stick to the k50. But I do like the fact that the ell has 5/8" innercore.

What I like about the Model N is it will go through almost anything, with the 5/8" dualmatic cable. Goes through traps like it is nothing. Can go through 1.25" drains also. Very good machine, I highly recommend it. I liked the K50 also, but "I" can do more with the Model N.

I would like an adapter that would allow me to use my model C with my ridgid 7/8" cables, I don't want to buy EEL 7/8" cables when I have so many. And yes I would be easy on the 7/8" cable. I had 4 k-60's down last week an adapter would have made me very happy. And don't get the wrong opinion it's not the k-60's fault they where down I abuse them beyond there design, they should have made them weigh more or me be younger. because I open the door on the van and look around for my weapon and at the end of the day I always grab the lightest machine.

Electric Eel can make you one. I had them make me a 5/8" Eel to 5/8" Ridgid connector
