Did you snake through it and make it look like that or just camera it and found this? Looks like some kind of plastic.

Looks like tar or abs glue dripping through the joint.

Failed pipe patch? Looks more like a tar or plastic liner of some sort

When I first rodded the line I knew something was wrong so I ran the SeeSnake. It must have been that way for years as there was a hard scale trail from the line being dammed up.

            Here's another view.

Yes cast iron. House was built in 1967.

I would run a chain knocker in there and whack it away. Then camera it to see if that spot needs a pipe patch.

That's one thing I don't have for my 1.25" cable. Which one would you recommend ?

The 2 pieces of cast look to be of different vintage.

                      My theory:

Could the sewer spur from sidewalk to street main have been replaced at some time in the past? Road construction or utility upgrade? Maybe the plumber didn't have the proper connector to join the two pieces so he butt-jointed them together and then poured Rockite or a another type of epoxy over the joint to fill the gap....plausible?

I don't know what else would cause this scenario

Just buy the ridgid and the right size for your pipe and hit it with the drill, And I think this will go extremely fast. Does EEl have one ? Heck like ratz says " Call A.J Coleman" lol

See if AJ Coleman has a Rothenberger Chain knocker. Or the old style Ridgid.

The home owner just called after having a plumber dig up & repair the line. He said it was lead so it must have been that way since 1967 when the house was built.
