  • Just something fun for everyone

Lou got this started so here is a circuit that may get people thinking a little harder. I hope everyone can really see this well after clicking the thumbnail below. You need to look it over carefully or you may miss something important.

Question: If the switch is closed what will happen to lamp #1. For now let's not worry about lamps 2 and 3. Please do look at both batteries with care.

    A) Nothing will change regarding lamp #1 if the switch is closed

    B) Lamp 1 will get brighter and may even go poof

    c) Lamp 1 will become dim or go out

    D) KaBoom and we won't need to think about the lamps

    E) Something will happen other than any of the above

Note: Both batteries are the same and in the same state of charge. All 3 lamps are the same type. Be sure to note how the batteries are positioned and connected. They are not as per what you may be expecting at first glance.

    Is this a joke?

    A) Nothing will change regarding lamp #1 if the switch is closed

and lamps 2 and 3 will continue to glow, each at half the voltage of lamp 1

Take a very close look at the wiring. Look over everything with care.

Everyone: Get ready for a second picture soon and look at what's different about it. It will be right next to the current picture but has a big hint in it. For now please post what you think changes when the switch is closed in regard to lamp 1.

        d, kaboom

you have a direct short with or without the switch closed.

each lamp has a bypass, jumper wire going around the lamps and therefore thelamps are not acting as a resistor

battery #1 is doing nothing. the + is not connected

        not bad for a plumber

Re: Just something fun for everyone

I just noticed the open circuit between lamp 1 and the positive terminal of the battery. In that case lamp 1 is dead but the switch still makes no difference since it's in parallel with that wire...

Re: Just something fun for everyone

Woussko are those jumper wires in parallel with the lamps or is that just your funky way of drawing lamps???
Because I'm basing my answer on the assumption that those are lamp schematics...

either the electrical schematic is not a true schematic, or i'm right

the bulb is a filimant. the drawing around the bulb is a jumper wire, not a glass bulb therefore the #2 battery is connected to a dead short with or without the switch closed. #1 battery is not connected as the +lead is open.

                correct me if i'm wrong

If in fact is is a jumper across each lamp then yes you are correct, but I think it's supposed to be a lamp

Re: Just something fun for everyone

It's my totally nutz way of drawing a lamp and YES, I need to fix it right. Now I'm going to post the second picture. None of the lamps have jumpers across them. It's that I'm NO good at drawing this stuff when tired and wanted to draw it fast. Sometime I'll be a good doggie and do a more careful drawing and one that really will tease the old brain. Now get ready for picture #2. All of you did well and should go eat a nice meal or something.

By the way Rick, you are very correct that it sure looks like I have jumpers across the lamps and thus KABOOM would happen to battery #2, but that would have happened shortly after it was connected. The switch makes no difference if if closed or left open. Battery #1 never is connected to anything. Look for the arrow in picture #2.

Woussko is a bad dog. Woussko is a bad dog. Woussko is a bad dog. Bad dogs must sleep out in the cold and only eat roadkill stew. YUCK ROFLMAO at myself for posting this stuff.

my schematic reading ability is not bad. my electrical knowledge is not bad

my plumbing isometric reading is even better. my plumbing knowledge is even better

ever since losing on a trick question on 1 vrs. 100. i'm taking his hint as this is a trick question, or trick drawing.

as far as his drawing goes, it's a jumper wire.
