  • 4 wires to furnace and thermostat

I want to upgrade my thermostat from a mechanical type with a clock to a new digital one. The problem is that there are only two wires going to the furnace, and two other wires going to a separate control power transformer to power the clock. The instructions said not connect the control power transformer and just plan on replacing batteries annually. That sounds wasteful, so I want to add extra wires from the furnace to power the thermostat.

Originally the house had oil heating, but a new gas furnace was installed about 3 years ago. It has a terminal block with the following:

    Y
    W- existing white wire
    R- existing red wire
    G
    C

Can I just run an additional wire from the C terminal block to the C on the new thermostat?
