  • Three way switch on lamp

Hi, I changed out a socket for a 3 way socket on the bed lamp.So I pull the chain , first pull- nothing, second pull lite is on , third pull lite stays on, 4th its off. It doesnt sem to change the wattage though and I get only twqo ons. I have a three way 50-100-150 bulb in it. The wire says this on it 18awgx2c is it wrong wire, it came with lamp, so theres two wires both seem to have silver and copper in them.I know which one is hot.
In the socket I have the hot wire going to copper and the ground going to silver.

    Please help, Thank you

Try another 3-way light bulb and also be sure to firmly (not super tight but tight) tighten the bulb into the socket. I bet in your case it's off-off-mid-mid and no dim or bright. Is that correct? It should be off-dim-mid-bright-off.

I looked at bulb package its a 3 way 50 watt 100 watt and 150 watt. It shouldnt work the way it does. I will try and tighten bulb.
One other thing that I didnt mention is that the contatc points for the hot and ground wire i couldnt get a wrap around the set screw, I basically got a small curve and cinched it down, maybe not enough contact? Im not sure if thats possible since I do have current going to it.
So its not the wire gauge right?

        Thank you
