  • simple wire question

I know this is elementary and Ive done it a few times already (but not for awhile) but if I have a live feed (14/2) and I want to scab in a new ceiling fan to a single switch (using 14/2) then does the black (main power) attach to the black going to the switch, the white coming from the switch connects to the black going to the fan, the white coming from the fan connects to the white coming from the live power? with all the grounds connected together. I know I can figure it out but its in the attic and in FL. right now its VERY hot up there. the quicker its done the better. Glenn

    Re: simple wire question

You are correct except for one thing. The White MUST carry the power TO the switch. The black carries the switched power to the load.
This is called a switch loop.
