Around here, the community colleges have basic and advanced courses you can take at night. The basic course is mostly safety and minor tasks like replacing an outlet, etc. Don't know if they have those in Canada. Also, some of the big box hardware stores (in the US its Lowe's and Home Depot) have classes on basic homeowner electrical repair.
If you are in the U.S., all public libraries and major home center stores would have books that will get you started. The home centers will also have the tools and materials that can help with the hands-on experience that you will need.
you can look up for detailed information on electricity on wikipedia and you can look up for different reference books they are available in market like encyclopedia would really help you or you can look up to your nearest library
