  • New Drill Press DP15501 motor will not start to run on it's own

My new drill press will not start and run on it's own when I turn it on. It sits and hums. I can start it by twisting the chuck a bit to get it started. I thought it was mainly from sitting while awaiting sell and delivery to me, but I don't think it is normal. I let it run over 1/2 hour.

Now I am thinking it is the capacity starter on the electric motor. Anywone else had this problem?

Firstoff, I would make sure the belt is not too tight. Yes, it sounds like it could be a bad starting capacitor. I don't know how big this dp is. If its small I would just return it. If its big you are probably going to have to go to the authorized repair place and see if you can just bring in the bad cap for an exchange. It would be best if you could test it beforehand (if you have a meter that reads capacitance).
