  • electric furnace not working

The electric furnace in my GF,s house doesn't come on. This is an intermittent problem. Replaced the thermostat yesterday and this did not cure the problem. The motor runs, and the breaker on the funace is not kicked. Help

If the sequencers are bad the elements will not engage. You will need a tech experienced with electric furnaces to find which one, or more, may be bad.

One sign of a failing sequencer is overheating and discoloring of the terminals. They can be bench tested to see if the internal contact are ok. As punky said a qualified tech is best.

Personally, I would have her upgrade to something more efficient.

How is practically 100% efficient less efficient than anything else?

What johncameron means is something with less cost to run per equivalent BTU output. Take into consideration, too, the cost of install and cost of fuel. Many of my customers here do not upgrade to natural gas because their electricity cost is 2-7 cents per kwh. So even if it takes 4 times as much electricity to make an equivalent unit, it's still cheaper than the other fuel.

Natural gas is the most efficient fossil fuel. In most states it's much cheaper to run than electric.
I believe the average KWH is closer to .10 in WV But I hear you. If it was only .02 cents, I would run everything on electric.

No it's not. That's marketing... "natural gas is your best energy value"

wiki has a good article on the subject: (under "Energy content of fuel")

Interesting. Maybe he should install a gasoline heater?

ya lol. another link i had here someplace also had petroleum manufactured products on it. Rubber is by far the best way to go. Maybe a coal burner with ground tires would be a good option.
