If you have a T 8 light with 2 bulbs in it will it be ok to take one bulb out with out burning out the balest
Also can you wire it so each bulb is on its own switch like you were able to to with the old 4 bulb lights

No, it will eventually burn out the ballast. But, Most ballasts run two tubes in series, so it you take one out; both lamps go outAlso can you wire it so each bulb is on its own switch like you were able to to with the old 4 bulb lights
I doubt it, unless you wire in a separate ballast. I do see 4 lamp ballasts that can be wired to switch 2 at a time but I have never saw one ballast that can switch individual lamps.

        Re: T8 lights

We have several 4 lamp t8 fixtures in an office. Some of the workers think they are too bright, so we have taken out 1, 2, or 3 lamps in many different fixtures. They have been operating that way for 3 plus years with no issue.

So I would say removing a lamp from a two lamp fixture should not negatively impact the lifespan of the ballast.
