  • 2 way light and switch rewire

Is this possible and how? I have a typical room light with 2-way switch that I would like to rewire and make 1-way switch and replace the other switch location as an non switched outlet only. Home was built in 1983 so I presume "code" was followed. Or will this require running new wiring? Doing this because removing a doorway in small hall area to turn into storage shelves.

If I'm reading your post correctly you have 1 switch ( 2 Way ) that turns on/off a light and a outlet at the same time if so here are 2 possible configurations you might have... you want to have the switch to turn on/off just the light and have the outlet on at all times ? I'm being cautious here and I'm no Electrition but I'm pretty sure the first thing to do is find out where your power source is coming in.... and rearrange the wiring to accomplish your task without running a new wire.

Best done by a pro or someone with wiring experience..

It sounds to me the poster has a 3 way switch arrangement and wants to remove one of the switches and install a receptacle in that old switch location. It depends on the wiring at the old switch location. Tell us what wires and colors you have.
