Holy crap romex is expensive now

I havent been working on any of the wiring in my house in the last few month. So I walk into home depot to but some 12-2 and I pick up a 250 ft roll. then I look up to the price plate above the stack. 100+ for a 250 roll

I was buying 250 rolls for 29 bucks end of last year. 300% increase. I guess copper followed the trend of all the precious metals.

I decided my new project can wait a few months

    i got a bargin

    i just picked up 6- 2500' spools of 10 gauge stranded. that's 15,000'

    paid $85.75 a spool. that's less than 4 cents a foot

too bad i couldn't find copper tubing for that price.

    3/4'' l copper is over $3.00 a foot now

maybe i can use it for tracer wire for gas hdpe. needs to be yellow.

3 rolls blue, 2 red and 1 brown. no white , black or green was left.

    rick.

    $8000 a ton

I heard on the radio a couple weeks ago that copper was up to 8K a ton... Knew it would not take long for that to get passed on to the consumer.

    Jeez,
You ain't kidding. I just happened to notice at the Home Disappointment yesterday how high it's gotten.

Uhm, my project can also wait a while.
(This {the price of copper} is real funny because last week I just happened to notice a freshly "left-in-the-way" pallet of Ridgid 14ga 50' extension cords that had to be marked incorrectly at $14.99 & I snatched one up. I dropped by this week just to see, and the cord is now $29.99! <Crap!, I should have bought two!>

The dentist office we finished was framed on the outside with wood studs and steel posts and beams. The only steel studs i saw were the internal walls.

You'll know it is worse when people will strip 14/2 6" scraps for $$$$

in PA you need to ask the home owner if you want to take some thing from the trash . once you put it out it it is the home owners ore the trash haulers.

thats because the trash co were losing money on the recycling .people were going around and taking the soda cans out.

for the longest time i have seen metal studs used on jobs ,now i wonder if we will start to see wood studs come back?

    Metals are expensive

You know the price of base metals have gone through the roof when pick up trucks overflowing with ANY scrap metal start trolling your neighbourhood on garbage night.
The same thing happened a number of years ago when the price of newsprint went crazy. Guys were raiding all of the residential recycling boxes.
Since the municipal scrap metal recycling here is more convoluted (you have to phone for pick up) most people just chuck metal in the trash.
    Therefore higher prices=more recycling.
China is vaccuuming up whatever they can get their hands on. Just wait until they start producing for their domestic market!

I have seen that increase too. Now we just have to explain to the homeowners that the cost of wire has gone up, we are not trying to rip them off.

But on the bright side i do have about 10-15 lbs of bare copper to take in for some $$$$!
