  • Thermostat wire

A technician needs to run some 24 volt thermostat wire 75 feet. To avoid a voltage drop, the technician should use:
    A. 16 awg
    b. 18 awg
    c. 20 awg
    d. 22 awg

    (B) 18 AWG

But I would bet that you would not get a drop that would make a difference in system operation using any of these, we are only talking 40 VA.

      Are these NATE practice questions?

Im gonna choose (A) because 75' of thermostat wire is actually a 150' run. You have the same side of the 24v traveling to the stat via the Red conductor then traveling back to the equipment via the White wire.

No they aren't NATE questions. These are some practice questions from a testing organization out in Illinois. Some are pretty tricky. I'll post some more when I get time. Thanks for the input.
