      Re: Compound leverage wrench

That's almost as good as a cutting torch. All we ever had in the boiler room was a 36" & 48" cast iron pipe wrenches (man killers) and the torch.

I need to invest in a compound leverage pipe wrench, would be just the ticket for what I do these days.

I am gonna have them order me one at work, if I don't like it I will keep torching We always use tape, and never seez on all steam connections, they will actually come apart for you if you do that.

                  Re: Compound leverage wrench

I ordered one last week after seeing it here. Should have it in a few weeks. Cost about 300 bucks but its better than beating on my 3 & 4 footer with a hammer. We do a lot of steam boilers and you would be surprised how tough it can be to get a 1 1/2 " nipple out of an elbow or union after its been there 50 years or more. Especially when its above the water line on the return.
Anything that can save my back now a days is worth the money.

Maybe he would think about it if I would hire another guy.Since he said it takes two to use the thing

The last time I used a compound wrench like that was in plumbing school in 1979/1980. Time flies.

Heck. It's not nearly as good a deal as a new one for $50 but i just bought one. I have a 4" flange I'm going to be unscrewing off a 35 year old galvanized pipe in the next six months. I was planning on using 3 ft wrenches with six foot cheaters. This should be much easier.

My ridgid Super 8 compound wrench arrived last week. Man! I'm glad I don't have to drag that thing around on a regular basis.
